Eduardo Miguel Abela Torrás

My work is an attempt to recreate and transmit the viewer from his very personal view of what is happening in my country to what I think could also be happening in other countries in Latin America and the Third World in general. The themes that I address are the problems of the loss of values​​, corruption, prostitution, economic crisis, the exodus and the division of the family. I would like people to meet in my works, to interact with them and establish their own meaning. Independence of the conceptual and formal requirements as a means of expression support me in the drawing, printmaking and painting. I value the aesthetic appropriations of universal art, that range from Byzantine art to the great movements of the twentieth century such as Pop Art. The use of this resource helps me to parody emphasizing the satirical spirit I am looking for, from known images and iconography that decontextualizes and incorporates our native environment, where they move to another dimension, the absurd and anachronistic.

En esencia mi trabajo es una reflexión satírica del fenómeno cubano. Con ella intento recrear y trasmitir al espectador desde una visión muy personal de lo que está pasando en mi país y que pienso también pudieran estar pasando en otros países de América Latina y del tercer mundo en general. Las temáticas que más abordo son aquellos problemas que a mí entender, la pérdida de valores, corrupción, la prostitución, crisis económica, el éxodo y la división de la familia. Me gustaría que las personas puedan encontrarse en mis obras; que interactúen y establezcan su propia lectura. Independencia de las exigencias conceptuales y formales, como medios de expresión me apoyo en el dibujo, el grabado y la pintura. Me valgo de citas y apropiaciones estéticas del arte universal que van, desde el arte bizantino, hasta los grandes movimientos del siglo XX, como el Pop Art. El uso de este recurso, me permite parodiar enfatizando ese espíritu satírico que deseo lograr, a partir de conocidas imágenes e iconografías que descontextualizo e incorporo a nuestro criollo entorno, en donde pasan a otra dimensión, a la del absurdo y lo anacrónico.
