Born in Havana, Rigoberto Mena graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Industrial Design and also studied at San Alejandro Academy. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo shows and group exhibitions in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, England and Germany. They are also in collections in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.
“Mena has found his own place in the ranks of abstraction, where he not only evidences high-rank craft in the handling of oil and acrylic, but also a rigorous capacity to find the precise limits of their contents and forms within the frameworks that his liberty as an artist grants him: this appears very distinctly in his medium-size and large format works, which are the areas in which he best expresses himself. Perhaps it would be better to define his work as an addition of the best conquests of abstraction in our milieu, which now appears as a transformation full of continuities and ruptures”. (Nelson Herrera Ysla Words in the catalogue Rigoberto Mena. Obra Reciente, 2002).
