From the series Esthetic Militancy (De la serie Militancia Estetica)
Subtitle: Speculation on the Existence of Fake News in the Press of Latin America. This piece is a collaborative work with Alex Hernandez Dueñas.
The public information generated and socialized from the internet, newspapers and magazines are implemented as an aesthetic material to create a group of works that appear very attractive. However, its themes, based on real data, graphics or infographics on drug trafficking, economy, migration, war, religious conflicts, social and global problems, generate a note of ambiguity between image and content.
Through these pieces, which may well work individually, or be part of a larger set, new global maps are created, some of which have a key in geometric abstraction. In this way, the complexity of its themes is contrasted with the abstract forms in which the information is presented.
This piece in particular the subject is related to the appearance in dissimilar Latin American newspapers of false news. Each of the circles represents a different press medium related to several countries of the American continent, and within them the percentages in which this phenomenon turns out to be recurrent or completely null.
In this work we explore the relationship between ethics and aesthetics, ambiguity and objectivity, art and social function.
